Big Bang Theory Cake!

This cake was a surprise for a Cornell student! It was the first birthday he was spending apart from his family, and they wanted to make it extra special by ordering a Big Bang Theory cake!

Cake Research

This was fun. I found several images of the show's set. They gave me the additional information I needed to modify the design. I loved the carpet and the wood floor. I would add those things to make it just a little bit different. I considered changing the blue but ultimately decided to go with it. It was a bright color that helped make everything pop and it worked against the couches and other accents. This would help me design things for the Big Bang Theory Cake.

Make the Cake

The birthday boy likes chocolate, so while this cake was only one layer, it was comprised of 3 thin layers of cake with a layer of chocolate filling between each layer. The cake was frosted and then covered in fondant for decoration. As is typical when I'm making cake, I had wonderful intentions of taking a lot of pictures of sculpting, but only have a few. Here is a tutorial of making the Big Bang Theory Cake.

What made this cake experience especially fun was being able to help two people celebrate a birthday together while their geography kept them temporarily apart. In our interconnected global world,  we were able to communicate by email, text and handle payment online. Just 5 days after our first email, the cake was delivered! After delivering his Big Bang Theory Cake, I was on my way to a concert, and I received a text from him telling me that the cake was beautiful and delicious. This was a super fun cake experience for all!
