- I confess, I love brownies more than all other baked goods. However, because I love them so much, I’m also very picky about them. Whenever I’m at an event that has desserts, there are always brownies, but usually they turn out to box mix. While acceptable, I am never satisfied by the box brownie. Brownies are one thing I used to make as a child whenever I got the chance! These gluten-free fudge brownies are better than what I remember making in my youth.
Pinterest and Google Images have changed the landscape of cake design. In years past when a customer emailed or called to order a cake, usually it would start with a theme. Most of the time I had free reign to figure out the direction of the cake. This was great FUN and sometimes extremely challenging! In fact, in the first several years of cake designing, I copied only one cake – a Martha Stewart teapot cake.
Now, most of the time I receive multiple pictures from Pinterest or screen shots from Google Images. It is a completely different type of challenge while still being A LOT of FUN! Continue reading
We have a really cool rock wall at Cornell and they offer lots of programs for youth and adults. I had the opportunity to make a rock climbing wall cake for a boy celebrating his birthday at the Cornell climbing wall. He and his friends would spend the day learning more about climbing, practicing and later diving into some delicious vegan cake! I wrote this post to help you make your own climbing wall cake.
This cake is intermediate in difficulty. You should have basic decorating skills and be really comfortable working with fondant. The height of the cake makes it more challenging to cover than a standard layer cake. Continue reading
