How to Frost Sunflowers

IMG_5477.jpg

You need:

I used the technique from the video below showing how to make frosting sunflowers using a flower nail. You can then place the sunflowers on top of a cake or cupcakes. Sometimes though, you are interested in making the entire cupcake look like a sunflower. There are just a couple of small tweaks.

The technique has you do this with a flower nail and parchment, but I used my large turn table and placed the flowers in the middle of the turn table. There, I started with a big center of ganache. After piping the ganache, I used tip 352 to make the outer ring of petals on the cupcake and then moved in to make the inner ring. Lastly, use tip 16 to pipe stars over the ganache center. These cupcakes were for a sunflower themed wedding!!

The wedding cake

Courtney and Erick chose a sunflower theme for their wedding. The cake was the centerpiece and the sunflower cupcakes were interspersed in with other simple cupcakes and cookies.
